About the author:
I am a dedicated education professional and academic leader currently serving as Deputy Head of Initial Teacher Education (ITE) at the University of Reading. With a strong background in primary education and teacher development, I bring extensive experience in programme leadership, curriculum innovation, and strategic planning across the early years, primary, and secondary ITE phases. My professional interests centre on supporting children’s behaviour for learning, inclusive education, and the mentoring of new educators and leaders.
My current research explores how to support neurodiverse student teachers in their teacher training courses, ensuring an accessible journey from application to graduation. This includes creating safe spaces, resources to support them to thrive and how to effectvely advocate for themselves as new teachers. I am deeply committed to fostering reflective, creative, and resilient future teachers, while contributing to national conversations on ITE policy, quality assurance, and recruitment strategies.
Prior to joining ITE, was an Assistant Head in a primary setting, where I led English, Mathematics and Computing.
